Abstract: There have been improvements in both the technology used for the design of the computing machines, and the programming languages developed for their use. However, there remain many problems unsolved or leftout, due to their computational expense in terms of execution time. Considerable interest exists in designing and developing faster machines. The improvement in computer speed has been possible through the drastic changes in the architectural design of the computers (parallel and distributed architectures).

Keywords: Hermes data flow machine; parallel computer; data driven computation; demand driven computation.
