Abstract: In this paper, Petri nets are used to model and to represent the dynamic behavior of an unmanned manufacturing cell. These nets fully describe both the operations of a specific cell and the detailed operations within the cell. Petri nets show the pull system control, the decision-making points in the system (represented by the transitions that have inhibitor arcs attached), and the flexibility of part-type changes (allowed by mutual exclusion).
Keywords: cellular manufacturing system; inhibitor arc; part-type change; pull system control; mutual exlsusion.
