Abstract: In this paper we present a methodology for re-engineering (reconstructing) of the synthesized cooperative information system when the specification for the system is changing e.g. by adding new requirements. The methodology is based on rough set theory. It can be treated as an adaptive strategy in re-engineering of cooperative information systems in the following sense: it allows to produce a plan of reconstruction of a given system by specifying which parts (modules and communication lines) can remain unchanged and which must be changed to satisfy new requirements. It is also possible to estimate the cost of the reconstruction. We present our idea by a simple example. In the outgoing project we are implementing a computer system supporting the process of re-engineering of cooperative information systems.
