Abstract: This paper deals with a Petri net modeling for hierarchical qualitative simulation to generate concurrent behaviours. Each state in a dynamical system is represented either by a dynamic variable with a pair consisting of a qualitative value and a qualitative derivative, or by a discrete variable with a qualitative value. A qualitative model is constructed by defining causal interactions among variables. A hierarchical modeling is supported to ease knowledge acquisition. A time-scale abstraction is also supported for more precise envisioning. This method is also applied to a co-generation plant.
Keywords: net-based hierarchical qualitative simulation; co-generation plant; causal interaction (among variables); knowledge acquisition.
