Abstract: The notion of `parallel processing' is extended from the computational environment to the generalized cases of `independent processes during the same course of time' and `concurrent processes'. It is shown why parallel processing is a problem of space and time. To find better solutions, different conceptual model spaces are discussed and compared: state space (automata theory), event-space/time space (Minkovski), and state/event space (Petri).
Keywords: parallel processing; independent processes; Minkovski.
