Abstract: This paper presents a comparative analysis that tries to answer the question of whether it is feasible or not to build a rapid prototyping tool for parallel and distributed systems using an object-oriented Petri net model. Bibliographic review and the implementation of a generic example into different existing formalisms helped to identify the main characteristics that play a role in this problem. Inheritance anomaly is identified as the major factor that prevents the construction of such a tool.
Keywords: object-oriented Petri nets, rapid prototyping.
