Abstract: The paper surveys various types of nets derived from the basic model of Petri nets. It suggests how, by combining appropriate elements of some of those types, a formal concept can be obtained which is strong enough to lend itself the conception of a discrete event simulation language like GPSS, SIMSCRIPT or SIMULA.
