Abstract: For over a decade, the National Bureau of Standards has been developing a control system to help facilitate the flexibility of machines and robots on the factory floor and to develop a true `system'. The theory of control of this system is called the Real-Time Control System (RCS). This thesis covers the application of the RCS to the search of an area by underwater autonomous vehicles (AUV) and addresses issues concerned with the valid techniques to be used in a two AUV search.
