Abstract: This paper is concerned with the use of Petri net structures to control discrete event systems in a ``fair'' manner when some resource sharing is involved. There are many differnt ways of defining ``fairness''. In this paper, first the authors review the event synchronization distance and bounded-fairness concepts. The authors then discusss some relations between these and other concepts of fairness, such as unconditional, strong and weak fairness.
