Abstract: The application of graph colouring for simplification and legibility improvement to iterated Petri nets is explained with examples related to combinations of operational and defective machines in a production system. The concepts of successor function, decoloration function and complex colour are defined, and validation of the graphical model to extract properties of the represented physical system is described. Other applications considered are simulation and control.
