Abstract: This paper discusses timed Petri net models that have been developed to investigate the performance of a local area network with a linear topology. A detailed model is first constructed from which results can be obtained only through simulation. A compact, analytically tractable model is then developed, which is validated by comparing its results with those obtained by simulation of the detailed model. Performance curves show that the proposed compact model can be used to obtain accurate performance estimates.
